Admiral Ulysses S. Grant Sharp was born in 1906 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1927. He attended the Naval War College in 1950. Alex W. Talmant was born in Springfield, Illinois, in 1919, where he attended local schools and Springfield Junior College before entering St. Louis University as a medical student from 1940-1941. That year, he joined the Army Air Corps and attended flying schools, graduating at Lubbock Field, Texas in July, 1942 with his commission as a Second Lieutenant and his pilot wings.
